Producers for a Broadway revival of “Cabaret” have announced that the show will soon be shutting down after its leading man, Billy Porter, contracted a life threatening condition.

The show will end on September 21, following Porter falling ill.

“Due to a serious case of sepsis, Billy Porter must also withdraw from the production,” according a social media post from the production. “His doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery but have advised him to maintain a restful schedule.”

Sepsis “is a serious condition in which the body responds improperly to an infection. The infection-fighting processes turn on the body, causing the organs to work poorly,” according to the Mayo Clinic.

CNN has reached out to representatives for Porter for comment.

The “Pose” star had been performing the role of Emcee, which will now be taken over by Marty Lauter and David Merino.

The New York Times reported that ticket sales had slowed following mixed reviews and the departure of Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne, who had previously played the role of Emcee.

The show was originally slated to close on October 19.

Daniel Day-Lewis has revealed that he “never intended to retire,” eight years after he announced he was stepping back from acting.

The Oscar-winner announced that he was retiring following his 2017 movie “Phantom Thread.”

But now, the 68-year-old actor is starring in “Anemone,” a movie he co-wrote with his son Ronan Day-Lewis, who has directed it.

Released next month, the film, which also stars Samantha Morton and Sean Bean, “explores the complex and profound ties that exist between brothers, fathers, and sons,” according to production company Focus Features.

In an interview with Rolling Stone published Wednesday, Day-Lewis senior reflected on his acting return.

“I would have done well to just keep my mouth shut,” he said. “It just seems like such grandiose gibberish to talk about. I never intended to retire, really. I just stopped doing that particular type of work so I could do some other work.”

The pair revealed that they started writing the script in 2020.

Day-Lewis said: “I had some residual sadness because I knew Ronan was going to go on to make films, and I was walking away from that. I thought, wouldn’t it be lovely if we could do something together and find a way of maybe containing it, so that it didn’t necessarily have to be something that required all the paraphernalia of a big production.”

A man who built a career of his brawn looks a lighter these days.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s decidedly more svelte appearance has raised more than a few eyebrows. The professional wrestler turned movie star explained the change during the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival’s “In Conversation With…” series held Monday.

Johnson, though still muscular, said he has slimmed down for a movie role, according to People magazine.

“We’re gonna make a film called Lizard Music, which is based off of a novel written by Daniel Pinkwater,” Johnson said.

The film “is a very whimsical and eccentric 70-something-year-old man called the Chicken Man. And his best friend is a 70-something-year-old chicken,” he explained.

“I’m so excited because I get a chance to hopefully transform again like I was able to do in ‘Smashing Machine,’” Johnson said. “Can’t wait.”
